Greene County VINE Coverage
Mississippi calls its service the Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification system, or SAVIN. The program tracks MDOC state offenders and offenders in participating county jail facilities. Anyone may register anonymously. The official Office of Mississippi SAVIN explains that county-to-MDOC registration can continue when a person moves from a participating county jail into state custody after felony conviction.
That continuity is useful in Greene County because custody types are easy to confuse. South Mississippi Correctional Institution is an MDOC state prison in Greene County. George/Greene County Correctional Facility houses state inmates in George County. MDOC offenders are within the state program. The Greene County Jail is covered only if it participates and supplies the named record. Statewide branding alone does not prove that every county jail reports.

Search Greene County VINE Records

Greene VINE Release Record Fields
The displayed fields depend on the reporting source and the current interface. Mississippi’s official material supports custody status and release-from-custody notification, but it does not promise a public historical release date or release reason on every record. Read only what the matched record actually shows.

A “released” or “out of custody” update means that reporting agency says its custody ended. It does not resolve whether another authority immediately took over. If exact time, reason, or destination matters, request the underlying release transaction from the reporting agency.

Register Greene County VINE Alerts
Registration attaches an alert method to one correct custody record. Available channels may include phone, text, email, or an app method. Notification types can include release from custody, transfer or temporary movement, return to custody, escape, and abscond supervision. Select the event and channel shown by the live interface rather than assuming all options appear for every record.

Confirm Greene County VINE Releases
VINELink is a notification and status tool, not the original release certificate. For a Greene County Jail record, call the Sheriff and ask for the booking/release transaction. Request the actual release date and time, recorded disposition, authority, and receiving agency. A court order can explain the legal basis but may have been entered before jail staff completed physical processing.
For an MDOC offender, compare the VINE update with MDOC Inmate Search and Parolee Search. The public inmate profile can show a Tentative Release Date, but a tentative date is not proof of departure. Complete state discharge is better established by a discharge certificate or MDOC Records response. Parole and earned-release supervision still place the person under state authority.
For a full named-person path across jail, prison, court, federal, and immigration systems, use the Greene County released inmate records overview. A no-result in VINELink alone cannot establish release, discharge, or a lack of custody.
Greene VINE Movement Alerts
A county-to-MDOC registration link can carry notification forward after a felony conviction or transfer. That feature is valuable near Greene County because SMCI is a large state prison within the county and George/Greene is a regional state-inmate facility outside it. Yet the same continuity proves why a departure from the county jail is not always community release.
Read the verb used in the alert. “Transfer” means a receiving custodian may now control the person. “Temporary movement” can be short term. “Return to custody” marks another change. “Abscond supervision” means the supervising agency reports loss of contact or noncompliance; it is not a new conviction by itself. Each update requires the next agency or court record that fits the event.

MDOC Victim Services is separate from anonymous VINE registration. Direct victims or survivors who want formal MDOC notifications must register with that division and keep contact details current. These two routes should not be merged. SAVIN/VINE provides status and alert registration. MDOC Victim Services maintains a distinct formal notification relationship for registered victims and survivors. Ask the office which process fits the request.
Note: Do not enter a phone number or email into a test record merely to capture the registration screen.
VINE Excludes Federal Greene Records
The BOP Inmate Locator is the correct federal-sentence route. Its results can show name, register number, age, race, sex, release date, and location. A BOP result marked “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” means BOP custody ended, not that every other government’s custody ended. Federal pretrial custody and court records may also involve the U.S. Marshals Service and PACER.
ICE uses its own Online Detainee Locator. The live locator denied access during research, so no unverified retention period should be claimed. Likewise, the Mississippi Sex Offender Registry is not a general release lookup. It applies only to people legally required to register, and presence does not prove a release date or current community status.
Keep each system in its lane. VINELink covers MDOC and participating county-jail sources. BOP, ICE, courts, and narrow-purpose registries answer other questions and cannot substitute for a Greene County Sheriff release record.
